Battery Temp out of Range
C1836 — Battery Temp out of Range
System: Chassis | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
C1836 is a manufacturer-specific chassis diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the C-prefix family of codes, which covers chassis, braking, steering, suspension, or stability-control faults.
When C1836 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.
Scanning & clearing: Chassis (C) codes are stored in the ABS, traction control, or stability-control modules. An enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is usually required to read and clear them.
C1836 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
DTC C1836 is set when a control module detects that the battery temperature input is outside its valid operating range. The module uses battery temperature, measured by a dedicated sensor or inferred from other inputs, to manage charging behavior and to protect high current consumers such as an air suspension compressor from operating during extreme thermal conditions. The code sets when the reported temperature is implausibly high or low, which can mean the battery genuinely is outside its safe temperature window, often from overcharging or extreme heat exposure, or that the sensor circuit ha...
