Motor Temperature Out of Range
C1854 — Motor Temperature Out of Range
System: Chassis | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Generic
C1854 is a manufacturer-specific chassis diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the C-prefix family of codes, which covers chassis, braking, steering, suspension, or stability-control faults.
When C1854 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.
Scanning & clearing: Chassis (C) codes are stored in the ABS, traction control, or stability-control modules. An enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is usually required to read and clear them.
C1854 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
This code relates to the thermal monitoring of an electric motor within a chassis system, such as an electric power steering motor, an air suspension compressor motor, or an electronic pump motor, depending on the vehicle. The control module monitors motor temperature either through a dedicated thermistor or through a calculated thermal model based on current draw and run time. DTC C1854 sets when the monitored motor temperature falls outside the expected operating range, reading implausibly high or low, or when the motor exceeds its safe thermal limit. When this code is set, the module typica...
