About P1227

P1227 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.

Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

P1227 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.

Code Information

On turbocharged engines the wastegate controls boost pressure by allowing exhaust to bypass the turbine once the target boost is reached, and the Engine Control Module (ECM) commands the wastegate through an actuator and boost control solenoid. DTC P1227 is set when the ECM determines the wastegate has failed closed, so it is not opening to relieve boost and the system runs into an overpressure or overboost condition. This is commonly caused by a seized or sticking wastegate, a faulty wastegate actuator, a boost control solenoid or its hoses not passing the control signal, or on variable geome...
