Code Information

The needle lift sensor is an inductive sensor built into one injector on Audi and Volkswagen diesel engines, most commonly cylinder 3, where a magnetised pin above the injector needle induces a small alternating voltage in a coil each time the needle lifts. The Engine Control Module uses that pulse to establish the actual start of injection, compares it against the crankshaft and pump position signals, and trims injection timing through the timing control valve to hold the commanded value.
