Code Information

One injector on these Audi and Volkswagen diesel engines, usually cylinder 3, contains a needle lift sensor made up of a coil and a magnetised pin above the injector needle. Each time the needle lifts to begin injection the changing magnetic field induces a small alternating voltage that the Engine Control Module uses to establish the actual start of injection, which it then compares against crankshaft and pump position and corrects through the timing control valve.
