Engine control module 2 fault
P1923 — Engine control module 2 fault
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Audi
P1923 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Audi vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1923 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
DTC P1923 is set when the primary engine control module (ECM 1) detects an internal fault within Engine Control Module 2, or cannot get a valid response from it. On the Audi models that split engine control across two modules, ECM 2 handles part of the engine and must return healthy status and data to ECM 1. This code points more at ECM 2 itself, its power, ground, software, or an internal self test failure, than at a simple wiring mismatch, although supply and network faults can produce the same result. When it sets, the engine commonly drops into a reduced power or fail safe mode, may run ro...
