The idle air control (IAC) valve meters a small amount of air around the closed throttle plate to control engine idle speed, opening and closing under command from the Engine Control Module to hold a stable idle under varying loads. DTC P1505 is set on Hyundai and Kia vehicles when the ECM detects an open circuit in the idle air control valve, meaning the expected current does not flow through the valve winding.
