Code Information

The electronic throttle control system can place the throttle into a forced idle mode when the ECM detects a fault that makes normal throttle control unsafe. DTC P1290 sets when the ECM commands this forced idle condition in response to a throttle position motor or control fault, holding engine output near idle to protect the vehicle and occupants. In forced idle mode the throttle plate is held at or near its default position regardless of pedal demand, so the engine will run but will not respond normally to the accelerator.
