Crankshaft Position Sensor signal fault
P1372 — Crankshaft Position Sensor signal fault
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Kia
P1372 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Kia vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1372 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1372 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The crankshaft position sensor reports engine speed and crankshaft position to the Engine Control Module (ECM) by reading a toothed reluctor or trigger wheel on the crankshaft or flywheel. The ECM uses this primary signal to time fuel injection and ignition and to count engine RPM. DTC P1372 sets when the ECM detects a fault in the crankshaft position sensor signal, such as a signal that is missing, intermittent, noisy, or does not correlate with the camshaft signal. Because this is the main timing reference, a fault can cause hard starting, a no start, stalling, misfire, or sudden cut outs. T...
