Code Information

The transmission output shaft speed sensor is usually a magnetic or hall effect sensor that reads a toothed reluctor or tone wheel on the output shaft to report how fast the output shaft is turning. The Transmission Control Module, or ECM on integrated systems, uses this speed together with input speed to calculate gear ratio, control shift timing and feel, manage torque converter lockup, and provide a vehicle speed reference.
