Code Information

On Toyota vehicles, the U1002 DTC sets when a control module on the CAN network fails to receive the expected messages from the multiplex gateway control module, also called the gateway ECU, for a set period. The gateway module functions as a central hub that routes communication between the different CAN buses on the vehicle. Loss of communication points to an interruption in network connectivity, a power or ground problem at the gateway, or a gateway internal fault.
