Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected
P1432 — Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: BMW
P1432 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for BMW vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1432 is stored, the module has detected a signal or supply voltage lower than the expected operating range.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1432 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
On BMW vehicles the secondary air injection system pumps fresh air into the exhaust ports during cold start so the extra oxygen helps burn unburnt fuel and brings the catalytic converter up to temperature faster, lowering cold start emissions. The system uses an electric secondary air pump and a control valve, and the DME confirms operation by watching the effect on the oxygen sensors or a dedicated flow signal. DTC P1432 sets when the DME detects incorrect secondary air flow, where the measured flow does not match what is expected during the secondary air test, either too little, too much, or...
