Code Information

The engine or body control module sets DTC P2501 when it detects an abnormally high voltage on the generator lamp L terminal circuit. The L terminal drives the charge warning light and provides excitation and status feedback between the alternator and the control module. A high reading points to an open circuit, a short to power, or loss of the normal pull down that the alternator provides when it is charging. When this code is set the charge warning light may stay on or behave oddly, the alternator may not excite and charge properly, and low system voltage or a flat battery can result.
