Code Information

The engine control module continuously monitors crankshaft position sensor pulses alongside the ignition switch state to distinguish a normal, driver commanded shutdown from an unintended one. DTC P1603 is recorded when engine speed falls to zero while the ignition remains on and the module had no instruction to stop the engine, in other words when the engine has stalled by itself.
