Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Range/Performance
P1009 — Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Range/Performance
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: LDV
P1009 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for LDV vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1009 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1009 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on LDV vehicles commands the variable valve timing (VVT) oil control valve with a pulse width modulated signal to advance or retard the camshaft phaser through engine oil pressure applied to a vane style phaser on the camshaft. The module reads the actual cam position through the camshaft position sensor and compares it against the commanded position continuously. DTC P1009 is set when the difference between the commanded and actual cam position exceeds a defined threshold over a calibrated time window, indicating a range or performance fault in the VVT actu...
