Fuel Pump Performance
P1089 — Fuel Pump Performance
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Nissan
P1089 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Nissan vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1089 is stored, the module has detected a plausibility fault — the measured value is in the electrical range but is not consistent with expected operating behaviour.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1089 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
On these Nissan engines the Engine Control Module (ECM) compares the actual fuel rail pressure, measured by the rail pressure sensor, against a target calculated from engine load and speed, and controls the high pressure fuel pump to meet it. DTC P1089 sets when the ECM drives the high pressure pump beyond its normal duty range yet the rail pressure stays below the allowable tolerance for a defined time, indicating the pump cannot maintain the required pressure. The cause is usually a worn high pressure pump, a restricted or weak low pressure supply feeding it, or a fault that bleeds pressure ...
