The Engine Control Module (ECM) and other networked modules communicate with the Reductant Control Module (RCM) on SCR equipped diesel vehicles via the CAN data bus. DTC U010E is set when the ECM does not receive valid CAN bus messages from the RCM within a calibrated time window while communication is expected. The RCM manages the AdBlue or diesel exhaust fluid injection system, monitors tailpipe NOx via dedicated NOx sensors, and reports SCR system status back to the ECM, so loss of communication disables SCR injection control.
