About P1563

P1563 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.

Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

P1563 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.

Code Information

The PCM monitors requests from the Instrument Panel Control Module (IPCM) over the CAN network for engine shutdown commands. DTC P1563 is set when the PCM receives a valid engine stop request from the IPCM, typically as a result of a critical vehicle system warning or safety related condition. When this request is received, the PCM may inhibit engine operation or command engine shutdown to protect the vehicle or occupants. The fault usually points to the IPCM or the network message rather than the PCM itself, and may present as a stall, a no start, or repeated shutdown.
