Code Information

C1648 is a Kia and Hyundai chassis code stored by the HECU, the combined ABS and stability control unit, when it detects invalid CAN messages arriving from the engine control module for the Smart Cruise Control system. Smart Cruise Control uses a forward radar sensor to measure the gap to the vehicle ahead, and the SCC controller depends on the HECU and the ECM exchanging torque, brake and vehicle status data over CAN in order to hold that gap. When the HECU monitors those messages and finds the data from the ECM invalid, missing or out of sequence, it stores C1648 and inhibits the Smart Cruis...
