Powertrain malfunction light comes on.

This TaT a Fact was provided as a TaT Assist request first and then a fix by Brendan Sorenson. The entry has been left as close as possible to see the detail of process as it was carried out and Brendan's thought processes to get to the correct conclusion.

Check engine light and malfunction indicator light will come on and occasionally also the limp home mode. Once warm, or if started near operating temperature - problem does not present.

SYMPTOMS:
The car runs perfectly, really just the annoyance of the fault code.

On cold start, usually 1-2 minutes into drive, always off throttle as you decelerate to a traffic light etc: the Powertrain malfunction light comes on.

Cycling ignition clears the light. Drive off, within a short time, usually at 2nd next deceleration the same light comes on.

If cycled again, on 3rd time, usually 2nd next deceleration, Check engine light and malfunction indicator light will come on and occassionally also limp home mode.
