Intermittent loss of power and warning lights come on, 4LO light flashes, the traction light on and the engine check light, in centre display the message “ check VSC system”.

This issue had been ongoing for almost two years, and it mainly occurred when in the outback on rough roads while towing.

Vehicle had been to the Toyota service; advice given that it needed a new high pressure pump and lines. {{pic1}}

They apparently were looking at the high side fuel pressures {{pic2}} and automatically assumed it had to be replaced.

Owner had been to a diesel specialist and they carried out some extensive testing. As per their report {{pic3}} code C1201 was the main issue (Engine control malfunction.) The other code of interest and obviously the one Toyota hung their hat on P1229 Fuel pressure high.

They had tried a suction valve with no change. The sensors were checked for continuity and the main connector plugs inspected and wiggle tests done as per their report. They were favouring wiring or ECU fault.
