Customer Complaint
High engine oil level and high fuel consumption since fuel filter replaced and intake clean at service.
197560 Kms on clock.
Problem Summary
No performance issues , just high fuel usage, oil level now increased at least 1 litre or more on dipstick.
There were no codes or definitions.
Vehicle presented with 189000kms-running OK but sump overfull 6 litres. First time customer, said he may have overfilled it?
Engine was running rough and owner was advised to complete intake clean-we did not know the cause of the sump overfull at the time.
Owner said service was well overdue.
Vehicle returned for service at 197000kms. - fuel filter was replaced-muddy solution, corrosion, was found on filter sediment drain.
Diesel fuel additive was also added to the tank.
Intake clean completed. Engine idle fluctuated after filter change-we checked fuel pressure and found readings on fuel rail fluctuating /spiking from 15 mpa to 50mpa at times and remaining steady at 25-35 mostly-spiked slightly at 2000rpm at approx 60mpa.
I suggested to the owner of a possible rail switch fault or injector faulty. My query is what would change to create high fuel consumption after these actions? Is it possible more dirt went into injectors after disturbing filter?
Checked oil level this morning, oil 1+ litre overfull since service -only few hundred kms and engine running OK.
