The vehicle cut out while accelerating up a sand dune and was difficult to restart. It started once after the incident but would not start again the following day.

When cranking, the engine behaved as if no fuel injection was occurring. Occasionally, it would fire for less than half a second at the start of a crank attempt. The check engine light was on, and dash lights would intermittently flicker. The only stored and present fault code was B279A – Theft Deterrent System Communication Line High Fixation.
