The check engine light is illuminated on the dashboard, and the engine surges at 2500–2800 rpm.

The engine runs but surges within a specific rpm range. The check engine light consistently returns after clearing. Initial suspicion was a faulty camshaft position sensor, but replacement did not resolve the fault. Further inspection revealed physical damage to the VVT sprocket.
