Park Brake Valve Solenoid #1 Sense Input Circuit Short to Gound
C1181 — Park Brake Valve Solenoid #1 Sense Input Circuit Short to Gound
System: Chassis | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Generic
C1181 is a manufacturer-specific chassis diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the C-prefix family of codes, which covers chassis, braking, steering, suspension, or stability-control faults.
When C1181 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Chassis (C) codes are stored in the ABS, traction control, or stability-control modules. An enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is usually required to read and clear them.
C1181 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
In vehicles with an electrohydraulic or solenoid controlled park brake system, the park brake valve solenoid controls the hydraulic pressure that applies and holds the park brake, and the control module monitors a sense input circuit that reports the solenoid state back to the module. DTC C1181 sets specifically when the module detects that the sense input circuit of park brake valve solenoid number 1 is shorted to ground, meaning the feedback voltage is pulled low or reads near zero when it should sit at a defined reference level. This is the short to ground variant of the more general sense ...
