Brake Switch Circuit Failure
C1446 — Brake Switch Circuit Failure
System: Chassis | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Generic
C1446 is a manufacturer-specific chassis diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the C-prefix family of codes, which covers chassis, braking, steering, suspension, or stability-control faults.
When C1446 is stored, the module has detected an electrical-circuit fault in the wiring, connector, or driver associated with the named component.
Scanning & clearing: Chassis (C) codes are stored in the ABS, traction control, or stability-control modules. An enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is usually required to read and clear them.
C1446 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The C1446 fault code indicates the ABS or stability control module has detected a fault on the brake switch circuit. The brake light switch is a critical input used by the ABS module to determine when the driver is applying the brakes, allowing it to enable ABS function, cancel cruise control, and rationalise master cylinder pressure transducer signals. The switch is typically a normally open contact that closes when the brake pedal is pressed, providing a discrete 12V signal to the module. This code is set when the module detects an implausible state, such as the switch staying closed continu...
