The B1697 code is set when the Body Control Module (BCM) or Driver Door Module detects that the driver passenger select input from the power mirror switch is shorted to battery voltage. The mirror switch on the driver door has a select function that tells the controlling module which mirror, left or right, the joystick adjustment input is being routed to. The select circuit is normally a low voltage signal that the module reads to decide which set of mirror motor outputs to energise.
