B1964 — Seat Horizontal Forward/Rearward Potentiometer Feedback Circuit Short To Battery
System: Body | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
B1964 is a manufacturer-specific body diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the B-prefix family of codes, which covers body, interior, airbag, or comfort-electronics faults.
When B1964 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: Body (B) codes are often stored in the body control module, airbag module, or climate module. A basic OBD-II tool usually will not read body codes — an enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is typically required.
B1964 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The B1964 code is set when the Driver Seat Module (DSM) or seat memory module detects that the horizontal forward/rearward potentiometer feedback signal is shorted to battery voltage. This potentiometer rides with the seat slide track and normally reports a position signal that swings between approximately 0.5 volts and 4.5 volts over the full slide range. When the module sees the signal sitting at or near system battery voltage, well above the expected supply rail of the sensor, it concludes the signal wire has picked up a B+ source somewhere in the circuit. With this code active, position fe...
