Code Information

The P1117 code sets when the PCM detects an intermittent or erratic signal from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. In normal operation the ECT thermistor produces a steady signal that changes slowly as coolant temperature rises and falls. When the PCM sees the signal jump, drop out, or fluctuate faster than the coolant temperature physically could, it flags this intermittent fault. Because the fault is not always present, it can cause occasional cold start fuelling errors, cooling fan changes, or temperature gauge movement, while leaving a stored code that is hard to reproduce.
