The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor provides the Engine Control Module (ECM) with more than one signal to cross check driver demand, and sensor C is one of these redundant pedal signals. DTC P1217 is set when the ECM detects that the pedal position sensor C signal is intermittent, cutting out or jumping rather than tracking pedal movement smoothly.
