This fault code indicates the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an open circuit in the heater circuit of the upstream oxygen sensor on Bank 1 Sensor 1, the sensor located before the catalytic converter. The integrated heater normally draws current to bring the sensor element up to operating temperature quickly so the ECM can enter closed loop and read exhaust oxygen accurately. When the ECM sees little or no current flow in the heater circuit, it determines the circuit is open and sets this code.
