Code Information

Knock control lets the Engine Control Module run ignition timing close to the detonation threshold for best efficiency while still protecting the engine when combustion turns unstable. Knock sensors mounted on the block pick up the characteristic vibration frequency of detonation, and the module attributes each event to a particular cylinder using crankshaft and camshaft position, retarding that cylinder alone and advancing it again once combustion settles.
