Ignition coil primary circuit 3 shorted to positive
P1346 — Ignition coil primary circuit 3 shorted to positive
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Audi
P1346 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Audi vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1346 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1346 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The ignition coil primary circuit carries the current that builds the magnetic field in the coil before it collapses to produce the secondary spark voltage. On these engines the primary is supplied with battery voltage and switched on the low side by an output stage, either integrated into the coil or contained in a separate ignition module, under the control of the Engine Control Module. The module monitors that circuit and expects the line to be pulled low for the dwell period and released at the moment of spark. DTC P1346 is stored when the ECM finds ignition coil primary circuit 3 held at ...
