EGR Temperature Sensor
P1401 — EGR Temperature Sensor
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Infiniti
P1401 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Infiniti vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1401 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1401 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The EGR temperature sensor is a thermistor fitted in the EGR passage that the Engine Control Module (ECM) uses to confirm exhaust gas recirculation is actually flowing. As hot exhaust gas passes the sensor when EGR is commanded open, the sensor resistance falls and the signal voltage changes, allowing the ECM to verify EGR operation. DTC P1401 is set when the signal voltage is outside the expected range, or when the temperature does not respond as expected during EGR operation, indicating a circuit fault or a flow problem. Because the sensor is a thermistor on a reference circuit, an open or s...
