Code Information

DTC P1402 is described by Nissan and Infiniti as EGR Function Open and is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects exhaust gas recirculation flow under conditions that do not call for EGR. The ECM typically senses this through the EGR temperature sensor reading a rise in temperature at idle or other closed EGR conditions, which indicates the EGR valve is leaking or stuck open. A valve held open by carbon build up allows exhaust gas into the intake at idle, upsetting the air fuel mixture.
