EGR Temperature Sensor
P1401 — EGR Temperature Sensor
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Nissan
P1401 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Nissan vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1401 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1401 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The EGR temperature sensor on Nissan engines is a thermistor mounted in the EGR passage that reports the temperature of recirculated exhaust gas to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM uses the rise in temperature when the EGR valve opens to confirm that exhaust gas is actually flowing, which verifies EGR system operation. DTC P1401 sets when the sensor signal is outside the expected range, either too high or too low, or does not respond as expected when EGR is commanded. Symptoms are often limited to an illuminated check engine light, though an emissions test failure or light driveability...
