Knock Sensor Control Zero Test
P1386 — Knock Sensor Control Zero Test
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Kia
P1386 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Kia vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1386 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1386 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The knock sensor is a piezoelectric sensor bolted to the engine block that detects the vibration of detonation, allowing the Engine Control Module (ECM) to retard ignition timing to protect the engine. As part of its self diagnostics the ECM runs a knock control zero test, checking that the knock sensor circuit and its baseline reference behave correctly during a defined window. DTC P1386 sets when this zero test result falls outside the expected range, indicating the knock sensor signal path or the ECM internal knock processing is not reading a valid reference. Causes include the sensor itsel...
