P1705 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Toyota vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1705 is stored, the module has detected a sensor-related fault — the reported value from the named sensor is out of spec.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

The direct clutch speed sensor is a magnetic or hall effect sensor that reads a toothed wheel on the direct clutch drum to report the rotational speed of that internal component. The Transmission Control Module compares this speed with input and output speeds to detect gear engagement, control shift timing, and judge clutch slip during shifts. DTC P1705 sets when the module detects the direct clutch speed signal is missing, erratic, or outside the expected range relative to the other speed signals.
