Code Information

DTC P1116 is set when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) finds the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor signal outside the expected window during the key on engine off self test routine. The ECT sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor whose resistance, and therefore signal voltage, should fall within a defined band for a cold engine. If the signal sits too high or too low during the self test, indicating an open circuit, a short, or a sensor that has drifted out of tolerance, the PCM records P1116.
