About P1593

P1593 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for BMW vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.

Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.

P1593 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.

Code Information

On BMW vehicles the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) drives the intake manifold air control solenoid through an output stage in the DME. This solenoid operates the DISA valve, the Differentiated Intake System Adjustment, which changes the effective intake runner length to optimise airflow and torque across the rev range. DTC P1593 sets when the DME output stage cannot properly activate the solenoid because of an electrical fault, such as an open, a short to ground or power, or abnormal load on the driver. Symptoms can include a check engine light, a loss of low end or mid range torque if the DI...
