Electronic Driving Unit Circuit
P1215 — Electronic Driving Unit Circuit
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Toyota
P1215 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Toyota vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1215 is stored, the module has detected an electrical-circuit fault in the wiring, connector, or driver associated with the named component.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1215 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
This fault code is set by the ECM when it detects an abnormality in the Electronic Driving Unit (EDU) circuit. The EDU is a separate high voltage driver used on many Toyota diesel injection systems, taking low current command signals from the ECM and stepping them up to the high voltage, high current pulses needed to open the fuel injectors quickly and precisely. DTC P1215 is triggered when the ECM senses a voltage deviation, an open, a short, or an internal EDU failure in this circuit during engine operation or self diagnosis checks. Because the EDU directly drives injection, a fault here com...
