The transmission fluid temperature sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor that the transmission control module uses to adjust shift timing, line pressure, and torque converter lockup according to how hot the fluid is. The module supplies the sensor through a fixed internal resistor and reads the returned signal voltage, which falls progressively as the fluid warms and the thermistor resistance drops.
