From the way the key felt we ordered an aftermarket Euro Ignition Switch and installed it.

With the new switch, the car would start and keep running as soon as you turned the key to accessories.

Removed aftermarket switch and fitted a genuine VW Switch - car started perfectly until we fitted the steering wheel back on and it went back to starting at Accessories.
