The engine would not start after the rocker cover/cam box had been removed and the engine timing checked by another workshop.

The vehicle arrived from another workshop as a no-start. The engine had been running before the previous repairs were carried out.

A visual inspection was performed for incorrectly connected components, particularly similar connectors around the intake manifold. Nothing obvious was found. The engine had an even cranking cadence and sounded as though it had good compression, so a compression test was not considered necessary at this stage.

An initial vehicle scan returned approximately 50 stored fault codes. After recording and clearing the codes, seven current faults remained:

P2185 – Engine coolant temperature sensor at radiator outlet: signal too high (G83)
P0651 – Sensor reference voltage: open circuit
P0238 – Manifold/boost pressure sensor: signal too high
P0214 – Intake manifold flap position sensor, bank 1
P164E – Oil pressure regulating valve: electrical malfunction
P0118 – Engine coolant temperature sensor: signal too high (G62)
P0113 – Intake air temperature sensor: signal too high (G42)
