The transmission would not select first gear when hot after a long drive.

The airport-transfer vehicle was becoming harder to get into gear. It worked normally again after cooling for about an hour. There was also a grinding noise after an extended idle in neutral. A leaking electrohydraulic gear-change unit had already been replaced with a second-hand unit, but the original symptoms remained.
