C1221 is a manufacturer-specific chassis diagnostic trouble code. It belongs to the C-prefix family of codes, which covers chassis, braking, steering, suspension, or stability-control faults.

When C1221 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.

Scanning & clearing: Chassis (C) codes are stored in the ABS, traction control, or stability-control modules. An enhanced or OEM-level scan tool is usually required to read and clear them.

Code Information

The ABS module drives the ABS warning lamp in the instrument cluster by switching its output line to ground while monitoring the line for the expected response. DTC C1221 sets when the module detects that the lamp output line is being pulled to ground externally, recognised by zero voltage on the line when the module is not actively commanding it, or by uncontrolled current flow into the driver pin.
