TPS Power Supply Circuit Malfunction
P1191 — TPS Power Supply Circuit Malfunction
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Mazda
P1191 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Mazda vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1191 is stored, the module has detected an electrical-circuit fault in the wiring, connector, or driver associated with the named component.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1191 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
DTC P1191 is a Mazda specific code that sets when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the power supply, or reference voltage, feeding the throttle position sensor (TPS) has fallen outside its expected range. The TPS depends on a stable 5V reference from the PCM to report throttle plate angle, and on many Mazda circuits that same 5V feed is shared with other sensors. When the supply is open, shorted, or loaded down, the PCM can no longer trust the throttle signal and may default to a reduced power or limp home strategy. The driver typically notices hesitation, a rough or surging id...
