Vacuum leak
P1190 — Vacuum leak
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: GM
P1190 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for GM vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1190 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates how much air is entering the engine using the mass air flow sensor, the manifold absolute pressure sensor, throttle position and engine speed, and it then cross checks that calculated value against the fuel corrections the oxygen sensors force it to make. DTC P1190 is set when the ECM concludes that more air is entering the engine than the metered path can account for, in other words that unmetered air is being drawn in downstream of the throttle plate through a leak. The classic signature is a high positive fuel trim at idle that reduces or disappear...
