4WD electric clutch relay short to battery
P1826 — 4WD electric clutch relay short to battery
System: Powertrain | Type: Manufacturer-Specific | Make: Ford
P1826 is a manufacturer-specific powertrain diagnostic trouble code recorded for Ford vehicles. It belongs to the P-prefix family of codes, which covers engine, transmission, emissions, or fuel-system faults.
When P1826 is stored, the module has detected a short-circuit (voltage pulled to ground or to supply) in the monitored circuit.
Scanning & clearing: A generic OBD-II scan tool will usually read and clear powertrain (P) codes. For live data, freeze-frame capture, and bi-directional tests you may need a more capable scan tool that supports the vehicle's ECM protocol.
P1826 is a manufacturer-specific code. The same code string on a different make may have a different meaning. Always confirm the code's definition against the vehicle's service information for the specific make and model under test.
The 4WD control module, or PCM on some applications, commands the four wheel drive electric clutch through a relay, energising the clutch coil to engage drive to the front axle. DTC P1826 sets when the module detects battery voltage on the relay control circuit at a time when that circuit should be pulled low or inactive, indicating an uncommanded power feed or short to battery. The module monitors the voltage on the control line against the commanded state of the relay driver and stores the code when the measured voltage does not match the command. When this fault is active the system typical...
