Code Information

The turbocharger bypass valve, also called the diverter or recirculation valve, vents charge pressure from the compressor outlet back to the compressor inlet when the throttle closes, preventing the surge that would otherwise slow the turbocharger and load its bearings. Depending on the application the Engine Control Module either switches an electric bypass valve solenoid directly or switches a vacuum solenoid, commonly designated N249, which applies vacuum to a diaphragm operated valve.
